Best Conditions for Writing

Everyone has different preferences when it comes to conditions for writing.  For myself personally, a quiet environment with no background noise is the best.  Also, I write in steady streams as opposed to bursts.  When there are no distractions and when I allot myself a period of time to write, I can focus better on my work. However, I do know people who like to listen to music while they write.  They’ve told me that it helps with their creativity.

No matter what writing assignment I get, I always start writing the body paragraphs first.  An introduction is meant to be catchy and a thesis summarizes what you write in the body paragraphs, so I feel that it’s helpful to get the content down first before I try to write the thesis and come up with an introduction that is interesting but at the same time remains relevant to the rest of the paper.  To me, revising is very important.  I usually revise and edit at least three times before I hand in my work.  After all, nothing is perfect the first time around.  Another thing I’ve found is that it’s good to read your work aloud when you revise.  It really allows you to catch little grammatical mistakes you might not otherwise find and it gives you an idea about how your paper flows~
